How To Become A Shamanic Practitioner

By Karen Miller

While most religions are based in faith, others are based in the unknown. Learning the way of the Shamanic Practitioner is one such spiritual path. For, in Shamanism, the teacher and student use drums and other spiritual tools to explore and discover truth by journeying into the vast unknown aspects of the universe.

A Shaman can either be a follower or leader in the tradition. In most cases, those having explored this spiritual path often report having spiritual experiences which far exceeds that of saints, prophets, drugs and near death survivors. To do so, leaders and followers often use drums and journey into the vast unknown areas of the universe.

While the practice is an alternative, it is often considered to be part of the occult. However, nothing could be further from the truth. For, Shamanism is one of the oldest spiritual paths and practices known to man. In fact, it is one of the most ancient spiritual paths and practices known to exist.

Non-profit foundations and schools teaching the art and way of the Shaman in the Western world have only come into existence over the last few decades. When seeking out a foundation or school to learn the art and ways of this spiritual path, it is important to enroll in one that has been well vetted. For example, an organization that is dedicated to the study, teaching and preservation of the practice.

The organizational website offers a great deal of information on the practice. In addition, there are several workshops offered which focus on different areas of life. Whether becoming more creative, or better understanding death and beyond, these workshops are often useful in helping overcome a number of obstacles in life.

Some of the workshops offered include The Way Of The Shaman, Power and Soul Retrieval Training, Extraction Healing Training, Shamanism and the Spirits of Nature, Shamanism Divination Training, Shamanic Dream work, Shamanism, Dying and Beyond and Shamanic Training in Creativity. Whether completing one, or all of the workshops, individuals often report having a great deal more insight into Shamanism and journeying into realms that could only be described as truly magical and unique.

When it comes to research, articles and news reports related to spiritual endeavors and issues, the foundation is often quite knowledgeable and shares the information as soon as possible. To get the most the website has to offer, the foundation offers a number of membership levels. Although, even the basic membership offers a great deal of activities and insight only members can enjoy. Beyond these benefits, the organization also recommends a number of external activities and articles which may be of interest to members.

In the MP3 which accompanies all levels of membership, two teachers, Ram Dass and Michael Harner provide a dialogue and discussion about the practice. In addition, each reveals a great deal of information about past and present experiences as student and teacher. As such, new members can gain a great deal of insight as to what to experience once becoming a Shaman.
