Millennial Leadership Training For The Next Generation

By Shirley Campbell

It is quite common for people of the previous generation to have the notion that millennials are generally mentally weaker than their predecessors and there is actually some truth to it. However, millennials also do possess oodles of potential of harnessed properly, especially in a time where technology is so advanced. If people of this generation would go through proper millennial leadership, it is possible to curb the weaknesses and harness the strengths.

Before delving into these programs, it is important to first know about the millennials. The weaknesses of this generation is that they are quite spoiled because their parents grew up in a time where the world was already improving and the baby boomers just rode along the trend and became comfortable. Because of this, millennials or generation Y people, are rather self entitled and expect things to go the way they plan because most middle class and above individuals lead very comfortable lives.

However, the strength of this generation is that since they are living in a time where they do not need to worry too much about survival, they are more innovative and can come up with ideas to further improve life. Coupled with technology, the generation Y babies can propel the world to the future. The key of these programs are to curb the weaknesses and to propel the strengths.

The first thing that these programs would teach is mindset. As stated above, a big weakness of the generation Y is that they tend to get very self entitled with life which makes them not able to survive. The first thing that the program would teach them would be to develop the hungry mindset of survival first because in order for one to be a leader, he must first know how to survive in even the worst conditions.

Once one has already gotten that good mindset, then the next thing to learn would be the skills. Now, one of the most important skills to learn would be organization skills that would allow one to be very systematic. If one would want to lead people, then he has to make sure that he is systematic in order to ensure that his people can work in a good environment.

Of course, one of the most important parts of the course would be people skills. Since leadership deals a lot with people, one must know how to deal with people well. They must not only know how to delegate but also to motivate and to train as well.

Now, if one can combine the innovative mindset that the millennial individual already has, then he can combine it with the people skills and organization skills that he will learn. Through a holistic approach, he can be able to create a system of work and of motivating people. He will also have to learn to take the emotional factor of people into consideration when leading.

As one can see, millennials do have strong potential to become great leaders. However, they need the proper training and guidance to do so. With the right skills, they can overcome their weaknesses and become the next generation of leaders.
